Brexit describes the possibility of the country of Britain leaving the European Union. The word Brexit was coined by The Economist magazine in 2012, possibly influenced by the creation of the term Grexit. Brexit is a combination of the words British and exit.
Grexit refers to a possible Greek exit, and Brexit refers to a possible British exit (In the case of Greece the term is sometimes also used for a possible Greek exit from the Eurozone, that is the bloc of countries that uses the Euro as their currency.
