Dating back to 1753, then known as the Royal Oak, it became the Trooper Alehouse in 1803 after a visit by the Duke of Wellington. The central bar has original low beams and is decorated with military prints. Two guest beers usually from Dark Star and another local ale compliment the 3 regulars.

Apr 24, 2009 · The Valiant Trooper in Aldbury is a pub with charmingly rough edges in a picture-postcard Hertfordshire hamlet. It’s ordered off an incongruously Little Chef-like plastic menu, but served in a reassuringly baronial hall, built into the back. Diners look out over a many-tabled garden, with a children’s playground at one end and a replica set of village stocks at the other.
Aldbury. In the days of Edward the Confessor the single manor (recorded as Aldeberie in the 1086 Domesday Book) was held by Alwin, the king’s thegn. The Valiant Trooper has served as an alehouse for several centuries, the first traceable evidence dates back to 1752.
